Beautiful hydrangeas, charming cottages, sandy beaches, and delicious food — there’s nothing quite like sweet summertime on Nantucket! And now’s the perfect time to start planning a weekend vacation on the island. Whether it’s your first time visiting or you’re an island expert at this point, we’ve rounded up everything you should do, see, and eat on Nantucket so you can experience the best of the best in just 48 hours. Let’s get started!
Day 1:
Morning & Afternoon: Sightsee, Sip & Shop
The easiest way to travel to Nantucket is by ferry, and there are plenty of options no matter where you’re departing from. Plan for a morning arrival to really take advantage of your summer day from the start.
Once you arrive, enjoy some shopping on Straight Wharf. From gift shops to markets to galleries, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
As you make your way down Straight Wharf, you’ll run right into Main Street which is another must-see during your weekend on the island. Lined with cute local shops and delicious restaurants, Main Street is the heart of town — and quintessentially Nantucket!
This is the perfect time to stop for some lunch and a drink. There are plenty of small cafes to pop into for a quick bite to eat, or you can sit and enjoy a meal at one of many the beautiful (and Instagram-worthy) restaurants on Main Street.
After lunch, spend a couple hours exploring some surrounding museums to get to know Nantucket a little more. Some of our favorites are the Nantucket Whaling Museum, Hawden House, and Mitchell House, which all offer unique perspectives on local Nantucket history.
Evening: Enjoy the Island by Water
The perfect way to end a summer day on Nantucket is by hopping aboard one of our Nantucket by Water cruises or charters. Whether it’s a cocktail cruise, sunset cruise, or even one of our history tours, it allows you to take in the beauty of the island in a new and exciting way.
Traveling with family and friends? Consider booking a private charter for just you and your crew, where you can enjoy a magical Nantucket golden hour among all your favorite people.
Day 2:
Morning & Afternoon: Explore ‘Sconset
Start your second day by heading to Siasconset, a charming Nantucket neighborhood that’s a must-see for both locals and tourists alike. Often referred to as just ‘Sconset, this picturesque part of the island boasts some pretty amazing ocean views. It’s also where you can find plenty of rose-covered cottages for that classic Nantucket look and feel.
Be sure to take a scenic stroll on the Bluff Walk, a public path where you can see beautiful homes and gardens while taking in the ocean views, too.
Cool down from your walk with a delicious lunch in ‘Sconset. From sandwiches to seafood, the local eats definitely won’t disappoint!
Evening: Head to the Beach
Head to the other end of the island to spend your last Nantucket night at Madaket Beach, where you can enjoy a delicious meal and take in one more beautiful sunset.
Grab dinner and drinks at Millie’s, then walk over to the beach about 30 minutes before sunset. With soft sand and big waves, Madaket is a picture-perfect backdrop to watch the sun go down. There’s truly no better spot to end your 48-hour Nantucket getaway!
